The project "Everything in your hands" addresses one of the most pressing issues of our time - environmental consciousness in children. Intended primarily for students in grades 5 - 6, but can be used for older children. At the same time, the specifics of the topic and the structure of the project allow it to be effectively used individual elements in geography lessons, as well as in environmental extracurricular work clubs.

Project objective:

  • to introduce trainees to the main environmental problems, to show the dependence of all living things on human activities;
  • involve students in environmental activities through implementation next tasks:
  • instill a sense of responsibility for the beauty and purity of nature (air, water, soil);
  • cultivate observation, interest in nature and careful attitude towards living and inanimate nature on the planet, the natural resources of the Smolensk region, the gifts of forests, lakes, rivers;
  • introduce environmental problems of forests, soil, reservoirs, and the air environment that arose due to human fault, with security activities carried out in these areas.

Expected end results:

  • cultivating a sense of responsibility for the fate of the nature of one’s region, understanding the need to learn to take care of one’s home, one’s Earth:
  • students' awareness of the important role of ecology in solving global problems of our time;
  • fostering a sense of responsibility for the beauty and purity of nature.

The project was carried out jointly with students in grade 6 according to the following plan:

1, Preparatory (creating a problem situation, brainstorming, choosing a project topic, setting a goal).

Before the project started, we brainstormed.
Is it possible to develop an environmental consciousness? Before the start of the project, we prepared all the necessary resources, and also held a parent meeting in order to provide support for parents and inform them of the need for written consent to post photographs of the child on the project website.
2. Design (choice of research topics by trainees).
We have identified the topics and content of further research The class has divided into 4 groups, each of which has investigated one of the problematic issues:
Group 1 - smart (collected material on the ecology of the Smolensk region);
Group 2 - analyzers (analyzed the collected material, wrote scripts for videos, edited information on the pages of the site);
Group 3 - video directors (edited the presented material in video format);
4 Group - sound engineers (videos were voiced);
Group 5 - web - designers (developed the structure of the site, formatted text and posted graphics, set the background for site pages, selected the site emblem, placed the navigation bar)

3, Practical (collection of information on the selected topic, systematization of materials, preparation and presentation of work results in the form of a website publication).

4, Final (site protection and summing up)
During the implementation of the project, a huge amount of work was carried out with various sources (books, Internet, tables, etc.), work was organized in groups to study specific problems in order to select the most effective ways to solve it.
At the end of the project, the children learned and understood the environmental situation of the Smolensk region at the moment, and also realized that children can also help the planet in general and their native land in particular.
After the project was completed, students learned to

  • collect information on environmental issues,
  • work in a team not only with classmates, but also with parents and friends
  • analyse environmental situations,
  • to propose own ideas for environmental problems and to defend their point of view, the
  • developed an environmental consciousness.

During the work on the project, students had the opportunity to develop skills in independent work, self-educational activity, and the ability to navigate the flow of information. A distinctive feature of the project is that it provides for integration with other academic subjects: information from physics, chemistry and other academic subjects can be used by students in the process of constructing sites on relevant topics.
