Tatiana's Day Classroom Hour (Grade 2)

Objectives:   1, To discover the history of the Tatiana's Day holiday
2, To form spiritual values in students.
3, To nurture students' communication skills.
Equipment: holy Martyr Tatiana icon, candle, competition items, prizes.

I. From the history of the holiday (story by teacher and trained students)
Teacher: There is a day in frosty January that is colored by a joyful, some kind of spring mood. It's January 25th - Tatiana's Day, Students' Day. As history shows, among Moscow's patronal holidays Tatiana's Day - Tatiana's name day and Moscow University Students' holiday - was special. When asked what Saint Tatiana has to do with students, the clergy answer: "Thus God gave!".
1st student: Tatiana was born in ancient Rome, into a noble family, Her father was consul He believed secretly in Christ and raised his daughter in piety, taught the Holy Scriptures The girl faced a brilliant marriage and life amid pleasure, but, having refused marriage and amusement, she gave all her strength to the Church.
2nd student: Tatiana prayed and fasted much, served the sick and poor, helped the Church in her charitable activities. In those days, Christians were persecuted in the country. Among other believers, Tatiana was also captured. She was subjected to severe torture. Amid the torment, she only prayed that God would enlighten her tormentors, and the Lord heard her prayer.
3rd student: Through her prayer, statues of pagan gods were destroyed three times. The torment to which Saint Tatiana was subjected either did not harm her, or during the night their traces disappeared without a trace, or the tormentors themselves suffered from blows inflicted by an invisible hand.
4th student: Shocked by the saint's resilience, her tormentors immediately openly turned to faith in Christ, turning from executioners into martyrs for Christ. The hungry lion, released on Saint Tatiana in the circus arena, began to caress her without causing the slightest harm. Then the frightened persecutors condemned the martyr to execution with the sword. Her father was executed along with her.
II.Prayer in memory of the martyr Tatiana (a candle is burning near the icon).

- And now, in memory of the martyr Tatiana, we say a prayer:
"O holy martyr Tatiano, receive us now, praying and falling to your holy icon" Pray for us, servants of God (names), may we be delivered of all sorrows and diseases of the soul and of the body, and may we live our piety in the present life, and in the next century honor us with all the saints to worship in the Trinity the glorious God, Father and Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever and ever Amen

III. Tatiana's Day, Students' Day. From the history of the holiday.
- Why did that day become Students' Day? in 1755, the day of the holy great martyr Tatiana got its name in the history of Russian science. on January 12, 1755, Tatiana's Day, Empress Elizaveta Petrovna signed the "Decree Establishing a University and Two Gymnasiums in Moscow" Initially, this holiday was celebrated only in Moscow, and was celebrated very lavishly According to eyewitnesses, the annual celebration of Tatiana's Day was a real event for Moscow. It consisted of two parts: a short official ceremony in the university building and a noisy folk festival in which almost the entire capital took part. This is how the monarch’s will created a student holiday - Tatiana's Day and Students' Day. At the end of the 1790s, construction of a special building for the university on Mokhovaya Street was completed, in which the martyr Tatiana's own church was equipped. On Tatiana's Day, services are held in the temple.
