KVN is an interesting form of work that children like, captivates them, increases interest in the subject, helps reveal the creative abilities of students with different levels of training.
KVN "Do you know Britain?" allows you to systematize the acquired knowledge, once again activate them in speech, and also creates a relaxed atmosphere of communication in English.
Performing tasks gives the teacher an idea of how students own material about the history of Great Britain, its famous people.
I give examples of competitive tasks for KVN. Two teams are involved.
Competition 1."Greetings."
Teams call themselves, show emblems and greet rivals.
Contest 2.Questions like "Do you remember?"
Each team has 8 questions to answer quickly. Both the number of correct answers and the time spent are taken into account.
First team questions.
- How many parts of the country are situated on the island of Great Britain? (3)
- What river is the capital situated on? (on the Thames)
- Who is officially the head of the country? (Queen Elizabeth 2)
- What is the seat of the British government? ( the Houses of Parliament)
- Who is the National Hero of Britain, the defender of the poor people? (Robin Hood)
- What are the oldest English universities? (Oxford and Cambridge Universities)
- What is the London home of the Queen? (Buckingham Palace)
- Where is London Zoo located? (in Regent's Park)

- Who was the Leader of the Norman Conquest? (William the Conqueror)
- What is the full name of the country? (the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)
- What was the first most terrible prison in Great Britain?
- Who is the architect of the famous St. Paul`s Cathedral? (Sir Christopher Wren)
- What is the Covent Garden? (a tourist shopping centre)
- What is a double-decker? (a bus)
- What is Big Ben? (one of the most famous clocks in the world)
Competition 3. «A Look at the British History »
Team members receive cards with a description of the attractions, which are invited to name team members.
- They keep all the oldest official documents of England there. (the Public Record Office)
- The oldest official document with detailed information about England. (The Domesday Book)
- The man who ordered the Domesday Book. (King William the Conqueror)
Competition 4. «Famous people. Who were they?»
Students take turns taking cards that give information about famous people in the UK. It is suggested that their names be given.
- He was English. He was born in 1564. He was a writer and an actor. He died in1616. (William Shakespeare)
- He was born in London in 1889. Later he lived in the USA. He was a film actor. (Charlie Chaplin)
- He was born in London in 1889. He was a writer. He wrote stories about Sherlock Holmes. (Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle)
- She was born in 1891. She wrote 75 detective stories. She died in 1976. (Agatha Christie)
- He was born in November 1697 in Grub Street in London. He was a portrait painter. He painted “Marriage a la Mode”. (William Hogarth)
- He was born in 1881. He was a microbiologist. He discovered penicillin. (Sir Alexander Fleming)
- He was born in 1847 in Scotland. He invented the telephone. (Alexander Bell)
